I am obsessed. Built in FM radio, mic, 4 track tape player recorder, synthesis engine, OLED, 16 hour battery. I will never buy this ($849) but I can dream.

I discovered Crystal Skulls a few years ago, and they became a favourite. Sunny, smart, deathly catchy rock. They also share some lineage with Seattle’s ever impressive, ever expanding music scene. The bass player, Yuuki Matthews plays with Sufjan Stevens; The lead guitar player in this video, Blake Westcott, now plays with David Bazan on Bazan Band tours (alongside drummer Casey Foubert); and guitarist/singer Christian Wargo is the bass player in Fleet Foxes. Joining them in this 2006 video is a 19 year old Robin Pecknold.

Disdaining the reserves of actual capital that were available to them through the major labels, indie musicians sought a competitive advantage in acquiring cultural capital instead.

You can hear Ben hollering right at the end of this song. Nerve-wracking to play a new song in front of so many, but when you’ve got an audience of friends - it’s nice. This will be on the new record. We head over to work on it tonight.
